Hi! Thanks for visiting An Asian American Christian (AAAC).
Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie gave a great talk on the danger of a single story:
Jewish rabbis who studied the Talmud intentionally recorded the dissenting opinion in their scrapbook of Jewish law and debate, considering diversity of opinion a strength and not a weakness.
There is wisdom in being able to hold contradictions and affirm a different perspective. Dialogue and conversation is the only way we grow in understanding and empathy. The Asian American community is already too disparate and diverse for a single voice to encapsulate the whole community, and I believe the kingdom of God also needs all voices, not just Asian American one. Let’s learn from each other as we share stories, perspectives on identity, and the never-ending growth of Christian life.
“Very great change starts from very small conversations, held among people who care.”
